Free Fall Wings Authorized

SPECIAL operations forces soldiers who are qualified in free-fall parachute operations may now wear a new skill badge.

Active-duty and reserve soldiers may wear the badge only when assigned or attached to U.S. Special Operations Command or U.S. Army Special Operations Command headquarters or subordinate commands or units. Wear of the badge is not authorized when soldiers are transferred from those units or for taking official Department of the Army photographs.

Soldiers who qualified in military free fall operations before Oct. 1, 1994, must submit a written application for authorization to wear the badge to their battalion adjutant. Copies of official jump records and graduation or qualification certificates are required to verify eligibility. Battalions, in turn, will send rosters of qualified soldiers to U.S. Special Operations Command at MacDill Air Force Base, Fla.

Proper wear of the badge is outlined in the newly revised AR 670-1, Wear and Appearance of Army Uniforms and Insignia. -- U.S. Special Operations Command PAO
