Le Groupe de Combat en Milieu Clos (GCMC)The GCMC (Close Quarters Combat Group) is an elite unit of the French Navy. Answering to COFUSCO( Commandement des Fusiliers Marins Commandos, the French Navy's special operations force command ), the unit is tasked with conducting maritime counter-terrorism (CT) missions. Formed in 1994, this highly trained unit of naval commandos specializes in conducting maritime assaults. Currently GCMC is composed of 17 men divided into two teams of 8 and a unit commander. Unit members are extensively trained in selective shooting, combat medicine, small boat handling, and CQB techniques. GCMC routinely conducts exercises with the Commando Hubert combat-diver unit's CT team and otherother allied CT teams. Unit members are armed with a variety of weapons including HK-MP5 series weapons, 12 gauge shotguns, 9mm auto loading pistols, and .357 cal revolvers.
